Samsung Unveils Sophisticated “Sleep Tracking” Technology on Galaxy Watch 5 Series

Samsung officially launched the Galaxy Watch 5 series smartwatch in the “Galaxy Unpacked” event which was held last August 10. This wearable device or so-called wearable device was released together with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series itself consists of two models, including the “regular” Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Both devices offer a number of health tracking features, including an improved sleep tracking feature from the previous version.

Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, Yang Tae-jong, who also serves as Head of Health Research and Development in Samsung’s mobile division, claims that the Galaxy Watch 5 series uses the world’s most advanced sleep tracking technology.

The technology in question is the Bioactive sensor that makes the Galaxy Watch 5 able to help maintain sleep habits and patterns be healthier.

This technology combines a number of specialized health sensors to generate accurate health data and insights into users’ fitness.

Tae-jong explains that Samsung has been developing the technology for a long time. Therefore, the Galaxy Watch 5 is able to monitor various stages of sleep, detect snoring, measure blood oxygen levels to determine sleep quality, and convert it in the form of a score.

In collaboration with the Samsung Medical Center, Galaxy Watch 5 also offers a special program for free, namely sleep training so that users’ sleep quality is better and healthier.

Tae-jong also claims his company is working with the US National Sleep Foundation and laboratories in San Diego and San Francisco to research sleep technology. In practice, this collaboration also leverages relevant data for clinical trials.

Other supporting technologies sleep tracking on the Galaxy Watch 5 series is a new temperature sensor. This technology involves infrared for more accurate tracking, especially in measuring the user’s sleep quality.

In addition to the above features, the Galaxy Watch 5 series also has an improved Biometric analysis feature compared to its predecessor.

That way, Galaxy Watch 5 users not only get a health analysis, but also suggestions that can make users achieve better targets.

Furthermore, Tae-jong stated that he believes smart watches in the future will focus more on health features and can be used for digital technology-based healthcare.
